ADDICTION

Addiction is not having control over doing, taking or using something to the point where it could be harmful to you. If you have an addiction, you're not alone. According to the Charity Action on Addiction, 1 in 3 people are addicted to something.

There are lots of reasons why addictions begin. In the case of drugs, alcohol and nicotine, these substances affect the way you feel, both physically and mentally. These feelings can be enjoyable and create a powerful urge to use the substances again. Gambling addiction has recently been highlighted for its impact on individual’s mental health.

We at Evolving Mindset are hoping to educate people on the power of addiction in its many forms, support individuals to identify realistic coping strategies and highlight further support in your local area. We are also keen for family members and carers of somebody with an addiction to attend these sessions, in order to learn how to best support your loved one.

Key aims of the session:

  • We will provide education on what addiction is and how it can affect your mental health

  • We will assist you to develop coping strategies

  • We will discuss up to date evidence-based information and latest statistics to be able to challenge the stigma associated with addiction

  • We will give you the confidence to support others who may be dealing with addiction
